Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during my first visit?

Once you have checked in at the front desk, Dr. Ryan or Dr. Annie will discuss your specific concerns with you and determine whether or not chiropractic care is right for you.

They will then perform a thorough physical examination, including neurological testing, orthopedic and muscle testing, and range of motion. If the doctors feel that further testing is needed before they administer any treatment, they will refer you to a nearby imaging facility for diagnostic X-rays or any other imaging they deem necessary.

Provided that there are no red flags on your exam and the doctors do not need imaging before treatment, you will receive your first adjustment the same day.

Once your new patient exam and first adjustment are completed, you will return to the office the next day for your report of findings and continued treatment. Based on 20 years of combined experience, the doctors will create a specific treatment plan that will be the most effective for the resolution of your condition.

How much will it cost?

The cost of your care will vary depending on your insurance coverage and the number of visits needed to fully address your specific condition. If you do not have insurance or we do not accept your insurance, we have a medical discount program that makes care quite affordable.

You will be informed of any costs associated with exams and adjustments prior to receiving these services. If you are a patient with Medicare, please read this special notice.

Do you accept my insurance?

We participate with most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans including Highmark, Anthem, Capital, Independence and Horizon. We accept Medicare (Medicare does not cover your initial exam). If you are a patient with Medicare, please read this special notice.

We do not accept Cigna, Aetna, Geisinger, UnitedHealthcare or UPMC. We do not accept any state plans such as Amerihealth or Medicaid.

If we do not accept your insurance, we can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Our office also offers ChiroHealthUSA, a medical discount program for anyone who does not have health insurance or does not have coverage in our office.

If you have specific questions about your insurance coverage, please email or call us and we will be happy to assist you further.

Do I need a referral to come to your office?

The great news is that the insurance companies we work with do not require you to obtain a referral for chiropractic care. However, there are a few exceptions, such as if you have an HMO or Medicare Advantage Plan.

If you’re unsure whether or not you need a referral, check with your insurance company.

How do I know if I need chiropractic care?

Call us, email us or set up an appointment online for a consultation and new patient exam. The doctors will let you know if they think chiropractic care can help you or if you would be better served to seek care from a different type of doctor or medical service.

Will the adjustment hurt?

Chiropractic adjustments are extremely gentle and effective. We have several techniques at our disposal that allow us to address any concerns you may have regarding a chiropractic adjustment.

We will use the technique we deem necessary to get you the best results. However, if you ever have any concerns or feel hesitant regarding adjustments, we will certainly take that into consideration. We want to make sure you are as comfortable as possible.

You may experience some soreness after your first adjustment, especially if you have never been adjusted before. This is nothing to worry about as it is a common reaction to a first-time chiropractic adjustment.

What is your cancellation policy?

All of our patients receive text reminders 24 hours ahead of their scheduled appointment, so if you are not able to make your scheduled appointment, we ask that you give our office 12 hours notice so that we can give that time slot to someone else.

We are continuing to grow every day and want to make sure all our patients have equal opportunity for appointments. When patients do not show up for their scheduled appointments, that takes an opportunity away from someone else who needs to be seen.

In light of this, starting January 1st, 2022, we will be firmly implementing our no call/no show/less than 12 hours cancellation fee. If you do not show up for your appointment or if you reschedule/cancel your appointment with less than 12 hours notice, your card on file will be charged $35.

We understand that emergencies and last minute schedule changes do happen, so if it is your first instance, you will get a verbal reminder about the cancellation fee. If you miss your scheduled appointment a second time, your card on file will be charged $35.

Is chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic care is very safe. Depending on your presentation, we will treat you with the best available techniques that will resolve your condition while making sure you feel comfortable during the adjustment.

There are several techniques that use different amounts of pressure and we will utilize the technique that will benefit your condition the most. You may feel slight discomfort for a brief period after your adjustments, but know that this is completely normal.

Is it safe for babies and children to get adjusted?

Contrary to what many people think, it’s perfectly safe to adjust babies and children. Dr. Annie has adjusted babies as young as 1 hour old!

Since babies have smaller spines than adults, their adjustments are completely different than an adult adjustment. Dr. Annie uses the same amount of pressure for an infant adjustment that you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato.

How do I know if my child needs chiropractic care?

This list is by no means inclusive, but here are some signs and symptoms that are indications that your child could benefit from chiropractic care.

  • Difficulty nursing on one side/preference to nurse on one side or difficulty latching

  • Difficult delivery (vaginal or C-section)

  • Colic

  • Asymmetrical head shape

  • Constipation/gas/digestive issues

  • Chronic ear infections or ear aches

  • Frequent colds

  • Asthma/allergies

  • Torticollis

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Acid reflux

  • Bed wetting

  • Poor posture

How long will it take to feel better?

While treatment lengths vary somewhat from person to person and from condition to condition, there are a few rules of thumb you can follow.

Newer injuries, if treated appropriately and immediately, tend to respond to fewer visits assuming that major tissue injury has not occurred. Many of these acute injuries can be effectively managed in as little as 3 to 4 visits.

Conditions that have been present for greater than 3 months or recurring conditions are generally more difficult to manage. Resolution for these conditions may require 12 visits or more.

In general, the longer your condition has been around, the more treatments it will require to resolve.

Do I have to get adjusted for the rest of my life?

Of course not. It’s a common misconception that once you start seeing a chiropractor, you’ll have to continue seeing one for the rest of your life.

However, Dr. Ryan and Dr. Annie feel strongly that periodic chiropractic checks and adjustments help ensure your continued health and well-being as well as prevent any future flare-ups.

Just like you go to the dentist to make sure your teeth aren’t rotting away, you may choose to continue chiropractic care after your initial treatment to make sure your spine stays healthy and strong.

Periodic chiropractic care enhances your overall health and wellness by minimizing spinal and nerve stresses, reducing the recurrences of old injuries, preventing new injuries from developing, and minimizing degenerative processes.
